OpenStudy (ria23):

What happens in a fission reaction?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Bigger nuclei having higher atomic number get s converted to smaller ones with smaller atomic number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fission = when stuff decay, and you have alpha, beta, or gamma rays as one of possible products

OpenStudy (ria23):

So... A fission reaction basically breaks down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea... your products will always be lighter than your reactants. well... not always. For beta decay, the atom gains one extra proton and shoots off an electron

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in that case, the product is one atomic number more than the reactants

OpenStudy (ria23):

Thank yhu.
