Can someone help me with geometric means?
@tgawade @jzellem1004 @EthanJumper
maybe i am at twiddla lol
so do i have to go there?
Just ask the question... please.
no lol
I don't understand anything about geometric means. It asks me to find the geometric mean between each pair of numbers. The numbers are 15 and 20. What I've been told to do is to multiply them together and then divide by the sq. root of 1/2 or something??
Are you familiar with geometric sequence ?
No
well... can anyone else help me?
no...? okay
I got disconnected.. had to fix my router -:( OK, so sequence is a bunch of numbers (can be infinite amount of them) that follows a certain pattern. lets take 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 .... you can see that to obtain each next term, you add 1. similarly when you have 3,1,-1,-3,-5,-7 ... you can see that to obtain the next term you subtract. When you ADD or SUBTRACT to get the next term, the sequence is called ARITHMETIC. Now, lets take 1, 3, 9, 27, 81, 163 you can see that to get a term, you multiply a previous term times 3. or example 2, 1, -2, 4, 8, -16, 32 you can see that to get a term, you multiply a previous term times -2. or example 3, 3125, 625, 125, 25, 5, 1, 1/5 , 1/25 you can see that to get a term, you divide previous term by 5. and example 4, 64, -16, 4, -1, 1/4, -1/16 ... you can see that to get a term, you divide previous term by -4. These sequences when you divide or multiply to get the next term are called geometric.
Geometric mean is a term between the 2 terms in the geometric sequence. When you are asked to find a geometric mean between lets say 4 and 64 you are asked to find the term in a geometric sequence that is between 4 and 64. Lets write this \(\LARGE\color{black}{ \bf 4~,~~ \text{?} ~~,~64}\)
the number that you multiply by to get to the next term in a geometric sequence is called "common ratio" in other words that if in your sequence you multiply times 3 each time, to get to the next term, your common ratio is 3. Lets label this common ratio as \(\normalsize\color{red}{ \bf r }\) .
I keep getting disconnected, and you are not replying..... I can't go on.
im sorry i didn't know i had to reply i thought you were explaining it
