Consider the functions f(x) = (x^2-9)/ (x-3) and g(x)= x-2. Then f(g(x))=0 when x= A. -3 B. -1 C. -3 and 3 D. -1 and 5 E. -3,2 and 3

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

ok, so first, what does f(g(x)) mean? can you write out what eq that gives us?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"f" and "g" are both functions. In function notation, the stuff inside the parentheses is just a placeholder, so you can put anything in there that you like, provided you use the same placeholder on the right side.

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

ok, uhm half right. this is called a composition of functions. Have you heard that before?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

it could be written \((f \circ g)(x)\)

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

(f∘g)(x)=0 specifically
