Use the trig ratios

Remember soh cah toa?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin45=6/x x=6/sin45 x=compute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45 degrees means the legs are equal. Thus by Pythagorian theorem we got that x^2 = 6^2 + 6^2 = 72 x = 6*sqrt(2)

OpenStudy (tootsi123):

@FancyUsername So x^2 = 36+36 = 72. okay so then how did u get the X = 6*square root(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = sqrt(72) right? x = sqrt(36 * 2) = sqrt(36) * sqrt(2) = 6 * sqrt(2)

OpenStudy (tootsi123):

@FancyUsername okay i think i understand could you maybe give me an example to work out to see if i completely get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

example? hmm. there is a property of roots. square root basically is some number to the power of 1/2. thus we can represent any number like multiplication of its roots. so 2 = sqrt 2 * sqrt 2. it is easy. Because of this and the property of powers we can freely tranfer numbers in and out of roots and powers if we have !!! multiplication !!! so 5 * sqrt(2) is sqrt(25) * sqrt(2) = sqrt(50). because sqrt(25) = 5. understood?

OpenStudy (tootsi123):

yup thax!!! XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem.
