What is the graph of the function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }x ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

plug in x values and tell me what you get for f(x) when x=-2,-1,0,1,2 write 5 ( x, f(x) ) coordinates.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

blocking someone prevents just from messaging, not from replying to your questions; unfortunately.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's stupid then what's the point lol and okay

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The point is that the user won't message you, but if he/she curses you in a question, then a moderator sees all deleted and edited replies so...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyway ...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes, tell me what f(x) equals, when x=2, f(x)=? x=-1, f(x)=? x=0, f(x)=? x=1, f(x)=? x=2, f(x)=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) = -1.3 repeating f(x) = -0.3 repeating f(x) = 0 f(x) = 0.3 repeating f(x) = 1.3 repeating

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

for the first 2 , it is positive becuase \[(-2)^2=4,~~~~no t~~-4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would the graph look like

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you can see that \[x=0~~,~~~~f(x)=0\]\[x=±1~~,~~~~f(x)=~1/3\]\[x=±2~~,~~~~f(x)=~4/3=1,~1/3\]\[x=±3~~,~~~~f(x)=~9/3=3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ranga

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm still confused on what the graph would look like though

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Graph the points on your paper and tell me what it looks like.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Or graph the points anywhere else. You can see that it is a U shaped parabola

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would this be the right graph ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

It is stepper, it contains points (3,9) and (-3,9) (and not (3,3) and (-3,3) )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that's wrong ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no idea what i'm doing am I not understanding what you're trying to say

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes, this graph is wrong. It is close to truth, because it is centered at the origin and goes up, but it is steeper, . Steeper !

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Oh, my bad... 1/3, yeah it is correct. I am really sorry -:(

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes it's right. I don't want to confuse you anymore. Have a good one.
