Melissa cut two vertices off a triangle. What is the maximum amount the sum of the interior angles of the resulting shape will increase by? Show your work and explain your answer.

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

@ShadowLegendX can you please help me out with this question?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Not sure @shelby1290 :/

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

lol okay np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A triangles total angles add up to 180 so if two are cut off then the result is a line and angles increase to 180. If it was only one then the answer would be 90.

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

so the max. would be 90 ? i'm a bit confused...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Max is 180 as 2/3 vertices have been removed.

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

@EllaRu what does 90 represent? 180 divided by 2

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

or..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IF you ever deal with triangles in higher dimensions of space the angular maximums change up to 180, but in 2D space as you're dealing with the inner angles of a triangle can only total 180 in any event. I assume the question doesn't asks about 4D right? cause if it does the answer changes by imaginary number factors...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In other words I've been writing too many proofs for quantum mathematics and put a 4D into the question automatically :)

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

oh okay

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

so...all i'll be writing down is that the max is 180 ? or is there calculations involved in order to get an answer

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

since the question says to show my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the definition of a triangle from your book in order to explain it. It's just reasoning based on that information.

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

i don't have my textbook with me...but i'll try googling it though

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

would it be this? http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0876325.html

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

^ for the definition of a triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is more helpful and can be interacted with to help answer future questions on the matter. http://www.mathopenref.com/triangleinternalangles.html

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

alright so i'll just going to be writing everything that's underneath the diagram, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first two properties.

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

okay

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

so just the definition and that the max is 180 is all i need?

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

well then, thank you!

OpenStudy (shelby1290):
