During the 1970s, why did the population of the United States change?A.Workers moved away from the Sunbelt of the South and West.B.Many blue-collar workers moved to the Northeast and Midwest.C.Fewer people left large cities to live in suburbs.D.Many immigrants arrived from Latin America and Asia.
How about 'None of the Above'? a, c, and d could have no effect on the population. In 1970, US population was 203 million; in 1980, it was 226 million. That's an increase of 23 million. During that same decade, immigration was 4.5 million. That does not count illegal immigration, and there is no way to know the exact number. An estimate of the illegals in that decade is 2.5 million. That's a total of 7 million. So, of the 23 million increase, 16 million was from internal population growth and 7 million from immigration, both legal and illegal. Although immigration contributed to the growth (as it has in every year since the US has existed), the primary reason was internal growth.
so its b
