What is the first quartile, Q1,of the following distribution? 24,26,26,28,29,31,33,35,37,38,40,42,43,46,48,55,56

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how many numbers are there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then Q1 is the position related to 17/4, rnded up

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so 17/4 = 4.xxx so Q1 is defined by the 5th number, as long as they are in order from low to high that is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28.5?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im thinking that 29 is the fifth position. your thinking of trying to average stuff which is what we would do if the division had no decimals

OpenStudy (amistre64):

spose there was 16 numbers: 16/4 = 4 ... we would want to average the 4th and 5th postions

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i dont know why that is, but thats just how my text told me to do it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O okay thank u!! :)
