Someone Please help me!!Medal for reward!!! @texaschic101

OpenStudy (anteater):

What is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anteater):

Ok, so you have 1/9 and .2

OpenStudy (anteater):

And it will be easier if both numbers are either fractions or decimal numbers

OpenStudy (anteater):

Which would you prefer to work with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's B

OpenStudy (anteater):

Let me check quickly :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

1/9 = .11111.... 1/11 = .090909.... .2 = .20000 ... If you convert them all to decimal numbers

OpenStudy (anteater):

And so 1/11 is less than 1/9 and 2/10

OpenStudy (anteater):

So you would want a number that is between .1111... and .2000 ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D.

OpenStudy (anteater):

Do you recall how to convert from fraction to decimal?

OpenStudy (anteater):

Ok, let's see :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

7/45 = .1555 ... and that would work. :D

OpenStudy (anteater):

If you would like, I can show you another way to quickly compare fractions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anteater):

0.6363... = 7/11 and then you have .7575... as well. So, what number will lie between those?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B? A?

OpenStudy (anteater):

If you divide the denominator of the fraction into the numerator you will convert the fraction to decimal form.

OpenStudy (anteater):

And if you divide 44 into 25, you get 0.568181...

OpenStudy (anteater):

Which is less than 0.6363 ... , so it won't work.

OpenStudy (anteater):

So B doesn't work. Let's look at A, then. What do you get if you divide 77 by 99?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it C?

OpenStudy (anteater):

I should have asked if you are allowed to use a calculator or if you have to do this longhand. :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

Yes, I believe it is C

OpenStudy (anteater):

Since 23/33 = 0.6969...

OpenStudy (anteater):

Good :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@texaschic101 @anteater

OpenStudy (anteater):

What do you think on this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D?

OpenStudy (anteater):

Can I ask a question? Are you allowed to use a calculator to do the division?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess

OpenStudy (anteater):

I think that would help, since division by hand would be kind of tedious :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

Please let me know what number you get when you do the division, and then we can compare it to the answer choices they have written.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A?

OpenStudy (anteater):

When you do the division, which group of numbers forms a "repeat" ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhhh B.

OpenStudy (anteater):

Those will be the numbers that have a bar over them in your answer, to show that those are the numbers that are being repeated. :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

Yes! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks xD I have one more

OpenStudy (anteater):

Sure!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

nice job anteater :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anteater):

Thanks :D

OpenStudy (anteater):

So, then, you can think of a fraction as a division

OpenStudy (anteater):

And you are dividing the numerator by the denominator

OpenStudy (anteater):

So again, if you use your calculator and, let's look at choice A, 75/336

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh It's C

OpenStudy (anteater):

I think you're right, but let me double check.

OpenStudy (anteater):

Yep!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG Thanks I passed Omg you're a Life savor Once I get back on my other account I'll fan you xDDDD

OpenStudy (anteater):

So are you currently studying rational numbers?

OpenStudy (anteater):

Thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No that was my last lesson on it I passed the rest

OpenStudy (anteater):

Just a heads up, after studying rational numbers (numbers that can be expressed as a ratio, or fraction, involving two integers), the next step is usually to look at irrational numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My other account I'm 87 xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anteater):

So you may be looking at irrational numbers next, numbers which can't be written as a fraction of two whole numbers.

OpenStudy (anteater):

You're welcome :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

What class are you taking?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think Algebra1

OpenStudy (anteater):

Yes, then you may be looking at irrational numbers next, so square roots of some numbers and simplifying roots.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anteater):

If you would like, I can give you a link to a site that has good information?

OpenStudy (anteater):

www.intmath.com

OpenStudy (anteater):

If you study square roots next, then the section on exponents and radicals will be useful, I think.

OpenStudy (anteater):

There is also a section on numbers and properties of numbers that may be of interest to you.

OpenStudy (anteater):

I hope this was helpful!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is thanks you very much :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

You are most welcome! :D

OpenStudy (anteater):

And now I get to go mow the lawn. :(

OpenStudy (anteater):

I hope you have a good afternoon! :D
