Can any one check this for me? { i will give medal} A map has a scale of 1:2500. On the map, a reservoir has an area of 2cm^2. What in the area of the reservoir? Give your answer in m^2
then the answer is 2 * 10^-2 ( I converted it into m) times 2500. I think you can take care of the rest.
\[l _{1}:l _{2}=1:2500\] \[l ^{2}_{1}:l ^{2}_{2}=1^{2}:2500^{2}=1:6.25\times10^{6}\] \[1cm ^{2}=100^{2} cm ^{^{2}}\] \[2cm ^{2}=1.25\times10^{7}cm ^{2}\]
\[10000cm ^{2}=1m ^{2}\] \[1.25\times10^{7}cm ^{2}=1.25\times10^{3}m ^{2}\]
when\[1.25\times10^{7}cm ^{2}\div10000cm ^{2}\]
the answer is 0.5 m^2
but im getting \[1.25\times 10^{3}m ^{2}\]
thats because u r squaring 2500
I get 1250 m2
@sheelo_mughal you are right!
well i dont think so... 1:2500 => 2:5000 now 2cm^2 in map = 5000 cm^2 in real. Then converting 5000 cm^2 to m^2 we get 0.5m^2 it is the answer.
no my dear you can't do that, wrong calcs ;)
this ratio of 1:2500 applies to linear length, not to surface areas, ok?
check out any random map with scales u will get that 1cm^2 represents x cm^2... so u r wrong :)
imagine the 2cm^2 area is made up of 2cm width times 1cm length, now apply the ratio of 1:2500 to these dimensions and you'll get the right answer :)
well may be u r right
may be ;)
I vote to the Asker,
I got 1.25 x 10^3 m^2
