Please solve? (2x+1)^2 + x^2 = 40000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(2x+1)^2+x^2=40,000\]

We see from the beginning that we have to terms to the 2nd degree meaning raised to the 2nd power so how would we remove that from the left side of the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By squaring the 2x+1?

Not exactly, you can do the opposite and take the square root of both sides of the equation

So 3x+1=200 Which means x = 66.33?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!
