Help figure out the fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hero (hero):

Hint x = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that.. But it comes out to be a number and idk how to turn it into a fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@whpalmer4

hero (hero):

You are given \(F(x) = \dfrac{3^x}{7}\) and \(x = 5\) So \(F(5) = \dfrac{3^5}{7}\) And then you simplify that. Keep in mind that \(3^5 = (3)(3)(3)(3)(3)\)

hero (hero):

Also, it says to enter as a fraction IF NECESSARY

hero (hero):

Which means, if your result is not a fraction, then it is not necessary to enter your result as a fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was 1/7 multiplied by 3^x ... So does that turn into 3^x/7?

hero (hero):

ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

243/7

hero (hero):

\(\dfrac{1}{2}x = \dfrac{x}{2}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is 34.71

hero (hero):

Enter it as a fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

243/7?

hero (hero):

ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused on this one as well.

hero (hero):

x = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know... But how would I do that 1/7^4?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

find \(7^4 = 7*7*7*7=\) then divide 1 by that number, and multiply by 35

hero (hero):

You don't have to divide anything by 1. I don't know why @whpalmer4 told you to do that.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Work on your reading comprehension. I said divide 1 by that number.

hero (hero):

You don't have to do that either. I know what you said.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

so why are you saying I told her to do something that I didn't in fact tell her to do?

hero (hero):

Why are you telling her to do something she doesn't have to do?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I quote: "how would I do that 1/7^4?"

hero (hero):

I see. You haven't read her actual question yet.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I just quoted the relevant part. She asked how to compute 1/7^4. I told her that, and then told her the following step to complete the problem. Now, do you want to continue setting a fine example here?

hero (hero):

The user is no longer here. I think I know why, but I'll help her when she comes back. If she comes back.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm back on... I had to help my nephew.

hero (hero):

Did you figure out the correct answer to the second question you posted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is 84,035

hero (hero):

At some point you arrived at \[F(x) = 35\dot\ \frac{1}{7^4}\] How did you get from that to 84,035?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh... I thought I was supposed to just multiply 7^4 (2401) by 35...

hero (hero):

No, because \(\frac{1}{7^4}\) is a fraction.

hero (hero):

You have to multiply it to get \(\dfrac{35}{7^4}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So..... multiply the numerator and the denominator by 35?
