Express your answer in simplest form. Tom ate 1/6 of the loaf of bread in the morning and 3/6 of the loaf of bread in the afternoon. How much of the bread did Tom eat?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so because they both have the same "second number" also referred to as the denominator, this question will be fairly easy. You just need to add the two fractions. You only need to add the "top numbers" also referred to as the numerators. So what is 1+3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep. So your answer will be 4/6 and if you simplify it you get 1/3. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

Sure thing!
