A newspaper carrier has $7.30 in change. He has four more quarters than dimes but four times as many nickels as quarters. How many coins of each type does he have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. Let's start with establishing the values of each variable. (1)He has four more quarters than dimes. (2) He has 4 times as many nickels as quarters. So dimes is probably the variable you'd like to use in your equation because the number of dimes can be substituted for the number of quarters in the second sentence. So let's say d represents the number of dimes you have in this equation. What does four more quarters than dimes look like then? Once you find that, what does four times that value you get in the first sentence?
