Which statement is true regarding the cause of the Cold War? 1.The U.S.S.R. was angry it had to pay for all the war damages of World War II. 2.The U.S. and the U.S.S.R. were involved in a conflict between communism and capitalism. 3.The United States wanted to limit the spread of democracy to other countries. 4.The Japanese wanted to get back at the U.S. for dropping the atomic bombs in Japan.

I'd probably go with (2). The others aren't very true considering the following reasons. The USSR didn't have to pay any reparations for WW1 -- they actually wanted to cripple Germany with reparations instead. (3) also doesn't make sense. If anything else, the US wanted to promote democracy to as many countries as possible. Lastly, the Japanese didn't actively go out of their way to seek revenge for the atom bombs. The war had ended, their Emperor called them to 'endure the unendurable', and as far as they were concerned, it was over. Aside from some nationalists and hardcore military types, Japan (with the help of the US) just wanted to get back on its feet.
