Select all that apply. The small intestine _____. churns and mashes food into smaller pieces breaks down food to a thin, watery mixture absorbs dissolved food with hundreds of villi stores food

OpenStudy (abhisar):

C

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

absorbs dissolved food with hundreds of villi

OpenStudy (abhisar):

No

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yes

OpenStudy (abhisar):

:D

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

Wait a minute..villi is present more in large intestine rite!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats it? there can be more then one

OpenStudy (abhisar):

so what small intestine has villi

OpenStudy (abhisar):

its the place where max absorption takes place

OpenStudy (abhisar):

B can also be true

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

Yeah..@Abhisar u r rite! I forgot...learnt it last 2 years ago!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks:)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

i have a doubt over option B

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@shreehari499

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is B %100

OpenStudy (abhisar):

how @hhelpplzzzz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The small intestine is divided into three parts: the duodenum, the jejunum, and the ileum. It has two important jobs. First, it further breaks down digested food from the stomach—mainly proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. This digestion is aided by three other body organs: the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. These organs release digestive juices that help break down food into a very thin, watery mixture.

@Abhisar

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Koikkara

OpenStudy (koikkara):

**Is twhat should i do with this ?""

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Can u pls pick correct options accrdn to u ? @Koikkara

OpenStudy (koikkara):

hmm, you mean ...The small intestine carries on further digestion and almost all of the absorption of food molecules. Structure: 1. It is lined with finger-like villi that increase the surface area for more efficient absorption and that contain capillaries to pick up the food molecules and get them into the bloodstream. 2. It has muscles for the peristalsis that moves the food along through the intestine. 3. The small intestine is long in order to give the food a long enough time during passage to be fully digested and for the digested food molecules to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Means The answer is (a).churns and mashes food into smaller pieces and (e)absorbs dissolved food with (f)hundreds of villi . hope this is helpful ! Thank U !! Keep In Touch, with Open study !!

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Thnx @Koikkara but dont u thnk churning and mashing is the function of stomach !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@shrutipande9 Pls help me out of ths !

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

i think d use of words makes it confusing...churning is a process that takes place in d stomach...but that word is not very scientific...small intestine brings about further breakdown and digestion of food....also some of it is taken in by the cells of the intestinal lining...if i had to choose..i would go wid B though overall the options are not very perfect..

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Why not 3rd one ? @shrutipande9

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

apparently i am wrong...it is C according to this site.. The small intestine is the portion of the digestive tract that connects the stomach and the large intestine. The small intestine consists of three different parts: the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. The small intestine contains small finger-like projections of tissue called villi which increase the surface area of the intestine and contain specialized cells that transport substances into the bloodstream. Although these villi do not aid in the digestion of nutrients, they do help with nutrient absorption. site- http://livehealthy.chron.com/importance-villi-small-intestine-digestion-nutrients-3923.html

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Here you go !!!! Maximum absorption takes place in small intestine..they have villi which is rich in network of blood capillaries and lymphatics. villi has micro villies or brusg border...these helps in absorption

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

but i have learnt that it does breakdown lipids further....pancreatic lipases breaksdown the triglycerols in the small intestine...so yes this ques has vague answers

OpenStudy (abhisar):

But does it turns the food into a watery mixture ?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

If yes then both B and C will be the answer .

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

no..watery mixture..is soooo non-scientific..:P so lets go with C i guess

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Yep....was struck here only... Thnx for helpng me out @shrutipande9 @Koikkara !

OpenStudy (koikkara):

I got an interview after One hour, for a reputed oil company, i 'll get to this after I finish that job ! Good day guys !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Sure & All the best @Koikkara !

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

all d best josh!!:D

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Thanks Guys... Pleased to meet You !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Same here man @Koikkara :)
