After pipetting why is there water left in the tip of the pipette? Is this something to do with surface tension? if it is can you please please explain? If you have other guesses plz do comment about it.. thank you

I'm not sure but do you think capillary action might be the cause?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes... that would be my answer but my teacher said that it is something to do with the surface tension or that the solution kinda like form as if the solution react with the glass(pipette) and and also he compare it to how water forms meniscus within and silver concaves... I hope you understand where im goin through here... Oh but thank you for the thought Butchy so I can see im not the only one with the idea of the capillary

|dw:1400755171091:dw| Isn't the water drop staying because the strenght of gravity (P=mg) is inferior to the surface tension and the capillarity pull?

:D aaah... yeah ur right :D i just answered what i wanted. Thank you
