A new movie can be downloaded for $8 per movie. An older movie can be downloaded for $3 per movie. Quinn buys a total of 7 movies and spends $41. A. define your variables. Write the system of equations and represent it as a matrix equation. b. use matrices to solve the equation by hand
Working to solve the problem $8 = x and $3 = y Is this the correct way to start
well, pretty close
technically not the correct notation but i think your idea is correct
oh okay.. so what notation should i be using.. i get them confused
I want to work it the correct way
actually nvm that it's correct after all
so you're using x for new movies and y for old movies
okay so that is the number vs the movie?
what do you know about the relation between x and y?
yes that is correct. I am using x for new movies and y for old movies
nothing really except that a total of 7 movies were bought so I know some of them or at least 1 had to be old or new
well actually i would not call that nothing. You know the total number of movies is exactly 7, so, do you agree with me that with that logic x+y=7?
yes I do agree
I actually have it written down that way next on my paper but after that i just go blank
After that I started trying to work on the matrices but that part isn't making sense to me
actually i believe the notation is not correct by the way, because x represents the AMOUNT of movies and not the VALUE of the movies. and the same counts for y.
so x = number of new movies y = number of old movies
no numerical value assigned yet
okay gotcha
