Infection rates at a hospital above 1 infection per 100 person days at risk are believed to be too high and are used as a benchmark. A hospital that had previously been above the benchmark recently had 10 infections over the last 1,787 person days at risk. What is the (one sided) P-value for the relevant test of whether the hospital is *below* the standard? Express your answer as either a proportion to two decimal places or a percentage to the nearest percentage point.
take the established benchmark for the standard and see how far the current situation is from it ....
or at least thats my idea ....
if the current status is: P and the standard is p then assuming some things about a normal distribution and such we can calculate how far off the current is from the standard:\[z=\frac{P-p}{\sqrt{pq/n}}\]
