Hint: Notice the signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In line 1 it gives you your function and in line 2 what is it doing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i knew it was line 2!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not giving you the answer? it is not line 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just realized..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok sorry go ahead

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Check the signs that happened during the transition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is really confusing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the first line you have your equation and throughout the whole process they are just solving for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it's line 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can see that the first thing they did is subtract 4x from both sides so if you do it out what should be left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct it is line 3 but do you know why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just realized that they were subtracting and stuff and then the whole process changes in line 3 because they're now solving for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mistake is not that they are solving for X but that in the transition a number was changed from negative to positive that should not have been to be consistent with the algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i just didn't know how to explain it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats fine great job
