HELP and show ur work please :) I think its A, am i right? Which of the following is not a perfect square trinomial? A. 169 – 26y + y2 B. 81 + 18y + y2 C. 64 + 8y + y2 D. 25 + 10y + y2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No Choice c is not perfect square!!! Bcouse there are not numbers whose sum is 8 and product is 64!!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a perfect square is the result of squaring something (x+a)^2 if we expand it into a trinomial we get: x^2 +2a x + a^2 as such we can see a relationship between the coefficients of the last and middle terms

OpenStudy (dan815):

if you believe its a can you put it in that form (x-a)^2

OpenStudy (dan815):

(y-a)^2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

to transform 2a into a^2 all we need to do is divide by 2 and square (2a/2)^2 = a^2

OpenStudy (dan815):

i like this working back method amistre

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can write choice a as (y-13)^2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

me too, i think it helps to see the mechanics behind the formulas :)
