what is the difference between anaphase 1 of mitosis and meiosis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is 1 plural and one not?

OpenStudy (juicstice):

Anaphase of mitosis - spindle fibres attach to the centromeres of each chromosome and cause the 2 chromatids to separate and move to opposite poles of the cell. Anaphase 1 of meiosis - Since the chromosome pairs have come together at Maetaphase 1 it is the whole chromosomes of each pair which separate to opposite poles of the cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both includes the separation of homologous chromosomes. But in Anaphase 1 of meiosis chromosomes in bivalents( two non-sister chromatids attach by a chiasma) are separated into sepaprate cells, this causes variation by RANDOM SEGREGATION OF ALLELS. While in Anaphase 1 of mitosis sister chromatids are separated.
