bill has to figure out the area of his square yard. he knows that oneside of his yard is equal tothe length of his garage. the dimensions of his rectangular garage is 20 by 10

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

Here's a hint.. In a rectangle, the width is always going to be the shorter side.

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

Area of a square is going to be Length*Length. Therefore a=20*20.

thanks

okay it always helps to draw things out if you want. but if it for sure a square yard then all of the sides are going to be the same length. So now you just have to figure out which side of the garage is the same length as the yard. the 10 foot side or the 20 foot side? Once you figure that out then you can easily take that number and square it. and viola! you'll have your answer :D

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

@tayromo You're asking her to write out the answer so she can find her answer. She needs to know which side of the rectangle is the length, and drawing it out cannot figure that out for her. She just needed to know that the length of a rectangle is always going to be longer than the width, unless if the rectangle is a square.

but it can be like this:|dw:1401230850341:dw| or it could be like this: |dw:1401230930026:dw| it just said that it was similar to one side of the garage it didn't specify that it was the side that was 20 feet long
