Solve {x-2y=2 and 3x-5y=9} by writing and solving a matrix equation. Show work.

OpenStudy (dan815):

for matrix u take the coeffecients and write like this |1 -2 | |x | |2| |3 5 | |y| = |9|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait shouldn't it be -5?

OpenStudy (dan815):

yep sorry

OpenStudy (dan815):

good catch :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no probs :) anyways when you multiply 1 and -5 then subtract the sum of -2 and 3... oh shoot... I added -2 and -3... instead of multiplied -2 and 3...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me try this quick

OpenStudy (dan815):

okay so now basically we can do row operations and stuff to bring the leftside in the form |1 0| |x| = | | |0 1| |y| =| | <--- right side some new numbers after the row operations

OpenStudy (dan815):

people often write it like this too

OpenStudy (dan815):

|dw:1401259314954:dw|
