Suppose when solving a system of linear equations in two variables, both variables happen to cancel, leaving you with a false statement. How should this be interpreted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A linear equation represents a line - they can be parallel meaning they will never intersect (parallel lines will have same slope) or they can intersect at one point. If the equations differ only in the constant terms then they are parallel lines and there is no solution.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I agree...if both variables cancel out, then there is no solution
