WILL MEDAL FOR HELP!!! a cubical box with the dimensions 3 x 3 x 2 is melted into another cube whose width is 15. Find the length and height of the cube formed if l=h. formula for volume is w x l x h Width Length Height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you have to multiply the dimensions of the first box by 5. So 3*5, 3*5 and 2*5. So your dimensions are 15*15*10 and you multiply those together. So the length and height are 15 and 10. Im not sure if this is right though....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to find the volume of the first box. Wjhat will that be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't think thats right. the volume has to stay the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the volume would be 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the 1st one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Me? or nelsonjedi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@candy23456

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well there isn't a whole lot of info

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there suppose to be a specific pattern to use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK now you have the volume of the first box is 18. We are melting it into a second box so the volume of the first box needs to equal the volume of the second box. How would you figure that out>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i'm having trouble on. it would be 18= 15 x l x h but idk what to do next.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well 15 is the width and u cant really get 18 as the volume unless u use decimals maybe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or fractions as your 2 dimensions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i've tried dividing 18 by 15 but that didn't work right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jenn is right. Now we do we know about l and h for the second box?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try fractions or decimals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divide both sides of the equation by 15 and what do you have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15* 1/5*6???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.2= l x h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. but if you divide 1.2 by 2 you get .6 and if you then do the equation out it comes out as 5.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when it should come out to 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry if l and h are equal the it would be the same as l^2 or h^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i need the sqrt of 1.2 then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

l and h might be 1/3 and 6 unless there are no fractions wanted

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No sqaure root of 1.2 works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Candy the problem states that l and h are equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YAY!!! thanks guys so much! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Welsome :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where does it state that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it just say sto find l and h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says find the length height of the cube formed if l=h
