Hi can anyone please tell me whether this refers to welfare or government spending? "The budget contains a NZ$500 million package of extra support for children and families over the next four years. It includes NZ$172 million to extend the paid parental leave entitlement and NZ$90 million to fund free doctor visits and prescriptions for children under 13."
it's looking governmental spending to me... as here they are talking about "the budget contains".... so this is a part of full budget... which is only of a government....
@paki both government spending and welfare spending fall under the "gov budget." @shaqadry the easy rule of thumb to determine the difference is to ask yourself whether the government gets anything in return for the money they spend. In the case of welfare payments (also known as transfer payments) the answer is no. So in your question the money the government is spending on extra support for children and paternal leave is a welfare payment because the gov is not receiving any good or service in return. Make sense?
