@amistre64 Can you please help me? Everyone else I've tagged is ignoring me, and I've been ignored for a few days now.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what defines the transverse axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that my answer is "On the y-axis) but I'm really not sure.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, since the center is 0,0 ... its either on the x or y :) the transverse axis cuts across the vertexes the negative parts have no solution when the positive parts are 0 0 - x^2 = 100 has no real solutions so the vertexes cant be x,0 y^2 - 0 = 100 has real solutions so the vertexes are at some 0,y ... so they are along the y axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I was correct?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, you were correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, great! Thank you so much! If the middle of the hyperbola was not on the y-axis, would that mean it's parallel since it would be next to it? (but the hyperbola is still slightly on it)|dw:1401466765676:dw|
