Krissy wanted to understand whether grade level had any relationship to students' opinion on extending the school day. She surveyed some students and displayed the results in the table below: Compare P(Grade 11 | opposed) with P(opposed | Grade 11). (1 point) a.P(Grade 11 | opposed) > P(opposed | Grade 11) b.P(Grade 11 | opposed) < P(opposed | Grade 11) c.P(Grade 11 | opposed) = P(opposed | Grade 11) d.There is not enough information. I Think it may be D but I'm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. P(Grade 11 | opposed) > P(opposed | Grade 11) B. P(Grade 11 | opposed) < P(opposed | Grade 11) C. P(Grade 11 | opposed) = P(opposed | Grade 11) D. There is not enough information.

OpenStudy (phi):

can you figure out P(Grade 11 | opposed) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15/38 ?

OpenStudy (phi):

P(Grade 11 | opposed) means Probability of Grade 11 GIVEN opposed Given opposed means "look only at the column labeled opposed" add up all the numbers in that column that goes in the "bottom" only one entry in the opposed column is labeled Grade 11 (the 15) that goes in the "top"

OpenStudy (phi):

you should get P(Grade 11 | opposed) =15/33

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so 15/33

OpenStudy (phi):

now do P(opposed | Grade 11) that means you are "given" Grade 11, which means, "only look at the row labeled Grade 11" add up all the numbers in the Grade 11 row. That goes in the bottom in the top, put the entry (in the Grade 11 row) that is "opposed". (It is 15)

OpenStudy (phi):

you should get P(opposed | Grade 11)=15/38 now you have to figure out which is bigger. Hint: if you divide the same number (the 15) by a bigger number, you get a smaller answer. example: ½ is bigger than ⅓

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is a right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi the answer is A right?

OpenStudy (phi):

15/33 > 15/38 so P(Grade 11 | opposed) > P(opposed | Grade 11) yes, choice A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YAY thanks so much :)
