@juicstice What is the surface area of a triangular pyramid if each face has an area of 80 m2? A. 320 m2 B. 20 m2 C. 240 m2 D. 160 m2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zzr0ck3r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 80 divided by 2

OpenStudy (ranga):

How many triangular faces does a triangular pyramid have?

OpenStudy (juicstice):

no a triangular pyramid looks like a Egyptian pyramid so it has four triangles and the bas is a square. so it would be 80 x 4, but I'm not sure about how to find the base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ranga it has 4 faces

OpenStudy (anonymous):

80x4=320

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes.

OpenStudy (juicstice):

does the base even count as a side here @ranga

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes. http://mathworld.wolfram.com/TriangularPyramid.html

OpenStudy (juicstice):

then why would the answer choices not seem to include the base

OpenStudy (ranga):

A) 320 m^2.

OpenStudy (juicstice):

I guess it doesn't matter so nvm

OpenStudy (juicstice):

oh, okay so I was picturing it as a different kind of triangular pyramid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A thanks

OpenStudy (ranga):

yw.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks 2 @Juicstice

OpenStudy (juicstice):

no problem. even thought I kinda messed up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is ok that is the story of my life LOL

OpenStudy (juicstice):

that's the story of everyone's life

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help with one more question

OpenStudy (juicstice):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The surface area of a rectangular prism is 15 m2. What is the surface area of this prism, measured in cm2? A. 1500 cm2 B. 150,000 cm2 C. 0.0015 cm2 D. 0.15 cm2

OpenStudy (juicstice):

how many centimeters are in a meter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B. right

OpenStudy (juicstice):

no, that's wrong, but can you tell me how many centimeters are in a meter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100

OpenStudy (juicstice):

yes, so with knowing that can you tell me the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A.

OpenStudy (juicstice):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (juicstice):

you're totally welcome, ma'am

OpenStudy (ranga):

The answer is B because of m^2. When you square a dimension, the conversion factor will also be squared. 1 m = 100 cm 1 m^2 = 10000 cm^2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i was right

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes.

OpenStudy (juicstice):

oh, crap, well I guess I got it wrong, really sorry about that :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is ok

OpenStudy (juicstice):

I hate it when I get something wrong because then I'll feel bad about it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please don't stress it is ok it is not like u messed up in open heart surgery

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL

OpenStudy (juicstice):

that is exactly why I can't be a surgeon haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahaha i Know right the same with me
