How do telescopes work like time machines?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Consider that light is determined by the speed at which time travels. In telescopes, we look at distant astronomical objects that are light years away at the time when light was passed to them. For example, it takes 8 minutes for the sunlight to pass earth, but sunlight takes nearly a second to get from moon to Earth. As we look into the telescope to see moon, we are a second behind and as we take picture of the sun we are 8 minutes behind.

Hope i made it clear..
