Simplify completely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Heres the problem

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so... what did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B. but I'm not sure if it's right

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well.. how did you get B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Square root of 27=729 Square root of 12=144 Square root of 16=256 So I subtracted all of them and got 329. Then I just added 4 onto the end

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\bf 27^2=729\qquad \sqrt{27}\ne 27^2 \\ \quad \\ 12^2=144\qquad \sqrt{12}\ne 12^2 \\ \quad \\ 16^2=256\qquad \sqrt{16}\ne 16^2\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

say for example... can you tell what's \(\bf \sqrt{9}?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm still not getting it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

81

geerky42 (geerky42):

Square root is opposite of square. For example, \(\Large 3^2 = 9 \rightarrow \sqrt{9} = 3\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\bf 9^2=81\qquad \sqrt{9}\ne 9^2\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

have you covered square roots yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... then this exercise may not apply to you you may want to cover that section first
