Hi guys, could someone help with this one? Calculate the average rate of change for the function f(x) = x^4 + 3x^3 - 5x^2 + 2x - 2, from x = -1 to x = 1

OpenStudy (kainui):

Alright, so what's your best attempt at this problem? I can help you understand what's going on if you get stuck, just walk me through what you can do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I know the formula for the average rate of change is AX = f(x) -f(a) over x -a. Then I think I have to graph this equation but I am fuzzy about how???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After going through the steps to graph it it looks like the average rate of change from 1 to -1 is 5 is that right?

I find the derivative?
