Which is the equation of the line? A. x – 2y = 6 B. 2x – y = 3 C. 2x + y = –3 D. x + 2y = –6

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

alright try to recognize the y intercept then you could narrow down the answer to just one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be C?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

actually that narrows it down to 2 answers sorry

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

so lets work from here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

so we know that our slope has to be positive by observing the graph

OpenStudy (imstuck):

It's a and I will tell you how you can find this. Start out with the slope-intercept form of a line: y = mx + b. B is the y-intercept. Look at your graph; where does the line cross the y axis? At -3. So far then we have y = mx - 3. Now to find the slope, start at your y-intercept point (-3) and go up and over enough times to get you to the next point that is on the line but is also at a perfect point. The next time the line goes through at an intersection on the graph is up one unit and two to the right. Rise over run gives a slope of 1/2. The equation now is y = 1/2x - 3. But they do not want a fraction, so they multiply everthing by 2. Now you have x - 2y = 6.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

so your answer is d. easy way to solve this one quickly is pick a point on the line and plug it into every equation and whatever equation is equal on both sides is your answer

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

sorry i was busy working with something else while doing this

Thanks y'all
