Which relation is a function? A. (–8, –3), (–1, –5), (–8, –2) B. (1, –3), (5, –3), (–3, 7) C. (–3, 0), (5, 9), (–3, 2) D. (1, 2), (1, 1), (0, 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats confusing.

OpenStudy (lyrae):

In a function a x-value can only result a single y-value. Example: (–8, –3), (–1, –5), (–8, –2) x = -8 -> y = -3 x = -8 -> y = -2 A is not a function because one x-value have different y-values.

im in a big hurry so is there anyway you could sum it up into a simple problem or something pplleeeaaasseee.

b

OpenStudy (jaydenthequiet):

basically what he is saying no number in the domain (x) cannot repeat

OpenStudy (lyrae):

It's a function if the value on the left side in each bracket occur only once. Lets do some more examples: (3, 4), (4, 5), (3, 2) ____ ____ x=3 -> y=4 x=3 -> y=2 Not a function. (4, 5), (3, 2), (6, -3), (-3, 5) Is a function because no x-value have the same y-value. (-2, 4), (-2, 5), (3, 4) ______ ______ x=-2 -> y=4 x=-2 -> y=5 Not a function.
