What did Darwin believe?
Well he believed that evolution happens over millions of years, (Which hasn't been proven yet, but most people think this is the best possible theory). There are many other things he believes, like adaptions, mutations, depends on what topic you are looking for.
Darwin didn't come up with concept of evolution, but he did propose the mechanism by which it occurs, \(\sf natural ~selection\). To my knowledge, evolution is a fact. There is direct evidence through observing antibiotic-resistant bacteria, the fossil record, etc. Darwin believed that the morphology of populations changed due to environmental pressures, and they did so in a way to enhance their \(\sf fitness\) - fitness in this sense simply means "having more offspring". It's important to note that he had no knowledge of genetic material.
@aaronq Yes, but those that you are talking about are just adaptations, there is still zero evidence for evolution. That's why it is still a theory that has not been accepted yet.
what are you talking about? it's widely accepted throughout the scientific community because it has copious amount of supporting evidence. Adaptation IS evolution. I don't think you know what \(\sf theory \) means - and no, it's not "a guess".
@aaronq Find me one peace of observable evidence, something I can see and test for evolution.
MRSA, they developed the resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics.
@aaronq I understand that, but based of Darwins "Change in kinds" there has been no new species created (Example: Humans and apes "Converged"), this is just an adaptation, and no wrong intentions against you either aaron, we are just having a great discussion.
Oh yeah, I dont take it personally, no worries. Hm there are various things that are wrong with what you're saying. To begin with, humans ARE apes, great apes (bonobos, gorillas, chimps, and homo (humans)) all diverged from a common organism - there is evidence for this at the chromosomal level, look into the translocation of a chromosome in gorillas that gave rise to the human karyotype (i can find you a source for this if you want). Also, Darwin never proposed that there were "changes in kinds", this is a common misconception - read his book "On the origin of species if you really wanna know what said. But in short, he proposed that the integration of adaptations (which occur by the process natural selection) over time changes the morphology of a population. We now know that there is a genetic basis for the changes that occur phenotypically, and the changes can be so drastic that we know birds are the closest descendants of dinosaurs. You can also look at this relatively recent example of a fish that adapted to live in antartic waters and has no red blood cells. http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/brainwaves/2012/08/03/how-the-antarctic-icefish-lost-its-red-blood-cells-but-survived-anyway/
Yes, I have actually read this, however there is one thing wrong with the chromosomal level as you directed,It only says that the human lineage went through a fusion event, however doesn't have any information about how our lineage shares a common ancestor with apes. I'm assuming the reference that you are talking about if from Dr. Collins? This reference has a lot of false facts.
Nope i'm talking about this one http://www.pnas.org/content/88/20/9051.full.pdf Note that any one single article can't talk about all the topics that relate to it. If you want further information on the data we have about common ancestor convergence you have to to do a lot of research. My point is that the evidence for evolution is vast, to say that "it's no proven" is foolish. In general, when you dont accept evolution you either don't know enough or you have a religious background that doesnt allow you to accept it.
