How does pollination take place in an angiosperm? and Explain double fertilization in angiosperms.
okay u hv any idea about this ?
ummm a little...I was looking thru my textbook and they reproduce by flowering i think
oh and fruit
with seeds in them
yes...flower is the characteristic of angiosperms. Pollination means transfer of pollen grains from anther of the male flower to the stigma of female flower
This transfer is done by use of many agents kike wind, water, insects etc
ok so with angiosperms do the seeds travel randomly via the wind...?
*kike=like
ohhh oops just saw your asnwer
*answer
oh ok cuz bees for example take the pollen and spread it?
seeds are the result of fertilisation...it is like baby
pollination involves pollen grains these are like sperms.
ok makes sense...the seed is formed after it is fertilized...
yes bees come for nectar and unknowingly take the pollen grain and spread it
oh ok...I get it...but what about the double fertilization?
Double fertilization is a complex fertilization mechanism of flowering plants. This process involves the joining of a female gametophyte with two male gametes.
ok but what makes it double...like does it go thru 2 stages or do they split so that two are formed?
actually pollen grains contain two male gametes inside it....it enters the ovule of the flower and fertilises two cells within it...one egg cell and other polar nuclei
the egg cell after fertilisation becomes zygote and polar nuclei becomes PRIMARY ENDOSPERM CELL
r u getting the point ?
ummmm sorta?....
i wonder how u guys have to study double fertilisation in 10th grade..i think its too early..!!
my teacher said it is a very advanced biology (even tho Im just in standard) and they teach a lot more than just a regular bio class
kinda irritating at times!
Hmm..for double fertilisation the basic thing u can keep in memory is that Pollen carries two cells inside it and fuses with two cells in the ovule thus causes two fertilisation simultaneously and hence called as double fertilisation
Ok that makes sense...basically its only double because there are two cells involved? @Abhisar
actually 4 cells..two in pollen and two in ovule
oh ok...but onces they are done like combining...then its just two?
yes
makes sense!! thank u!!!....ummm....I have another question....
and those two final cells are called as Zygote and Primary Endosperm
yes go ahead
oh thats good to kno! thank u!
