Which ordered pair could be a solution to this inequality? y<3x-x A. (2,-2) B. (-3,1) C. (-4,1)

OpenStudy (imstuck):

The way you solve these is to sub in the x and the y coordinate into your inequality and see which one is true. It just so happens that the first choice is the right one, but we will see why the others don't work. y<3x-x would be 1<3(-3)-(-3). That would be 1<-6. Is 1 less than -6? No, it's not so that one is not true. Let's do C at (-4, 1). 1<3(-4)-(-4) is 1<-8. Is 1 less than -8? No, it's not, so that one is not true either. The first one is 2<3(2)-(2) is 1<4 which is true. See that? Just sub in the x and the y from your coordinates into the inequality to see which point makes the inequality true.
