For two lines to be parallel, the slope of each of the lines has to be the same. So for the equation of a line, y=mx +b, the m value must be the same if you want the other line to be parallel. In your equation, m=3 so y=3x +b The b value will simply move the direction of the line vertically, so you can use any b value you want, and you will have another parallel line as long as the m value remains 3. So pink gave an other example. y=3x-4
