What are the asymptotes of the function.

x=1,-1
do you need y asymptotes
our asymptotes come from when we try and divide by zero, or when the denominator is zero. when does this happen x^2-1=0 implies x^2=1 implies x=1 or x=-1 so the asymptotes are x=1 and x=-1
for horizontal asymptotes, since the degree of the top equals the degree of the bottom we divide the leading coefficients and get 4/1 = 4 so the horizontal asymptotes is y=4
ie the limit as x goes to infinity is 4.
ty @zzr0ck3r needed a refresher on y asymptotes, but i thought it was y=4
Rule of Thumb: Make the denominator zero and you MIGHT have an asymptote. Rule of Other Thumb: If the SAME value makes the numerator zero, then you DON'T have an asymptote. In this case, the numerator is never zero, so both suspected asymptotes count.
thanks guys....
