Deductive reasoning uses __________ information to justify a specific claim; inductive reasoning uses __________ information to support a general conjecture. A. general . . . general B. general . . . specific C. specific . . . specific D. specific . . . general
I just read the introductions to both kinds of reasoning on Wikipedia and I think C is the right answer.
No wait, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deductive_reasoning explicitly uses the word "general" so the right answer could also be B.
I guess you could describe the two as follows: When reasoning deductively you have more information than you need. When reasoning inductively you don't have enough information; rather, you see some pattern and hope that even the things you don't know conform to that pattern.
More information than needed -> more than specific -> general. Less information than needed -> cannot be general -> specific. Answer B.
