OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the root morpheme in the word replacement? A. re- B. replace C. place D. -ment

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Know what a root morphem is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, i just need help.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, a morpheme is a part of a word that has meaning but may or may not be able to stand on its own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so B. replace would be the answer?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

A root word is a word that can stand on its own and have meaning. So no prefix or suffix.

OpenStudy (paki):

@e.mccormick prefix and affix are morpheme or not...?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@katiieboo8899 well, have you removed all prefixes and suffixes? @paki A prefix is an affix. It is the affix before a word. You meant suffix. And yes, they are both morphemes. For example, if I say bird and birds, the first is a single morpheme that is a root word and has meaning alone but the second is two morphemes, bird and s, of which the second has meaning but can not stand alone.

OpenStudy (paki):

well thanks... got it now...

OpenStudy (paki):

so answer would be C....? @e.mccormick
