Sketch curve with equation y= 2x-1/x+1 @ganeshie8 @zpupster CAN ANYONE HELP ME
vertical asymtote= -1
What's ur method ( @ganeshie8 ) to get the horizontal asymtote
long division method?
@ganeshie8
@SolomonZelman
take the ratio of leading coefficients of numerator and denominator
\(\large y= \dfrac{2x-1}{x+1}\) leading coefficient of numerator = 2 leading coefficient of denominator = 1 So horizontal asymptote is : \(\large y = \dfrac{2}{1} = 2\)
\(\LARGE\color{blue}{ \rm y=\frac{2x-1}{x+1}}\) \(\large\color{blue}{ \rm x=-4,~~~-->~~~y=3,~~~->~~~(-4,3)}\) \(\large\color{blue}{ \rm x=-2,~~~-->~~~y=5,~~~->~~~(-2,5)}\) \(\large\color{blue}{ \rm x=0,~~~-->~~~~y=-1,~~~->~~~(0,-1)}\) \(\large\color{blue}{ \rm x=2,~~~~-->~~~y=1,~~~->~~~(2,1)}\) graph a couple points, and draw the curve
Thanks Ganesh & Solomon
You can do that for any rational function that has same degree for both numerator and denominator
