why is it important that bacteria developing resistance to antibiotics?

OpenStudy (matt101):

The simple answer is that if bacteria become resistant to antibiotics, the antibiotics will no longer work on them. This means that if you get sick due to a resistant bacteria, you might not get better... This is why you hear about "superbugs" like MRSA (multi-drug resistant staphylococcus aureus) in hospitals, because so many people are being treated with so many different antibiotics that there are many opportunities for resistant strains of bacteria to arise.
