What is the allele frequency?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Allele frequency or gene frequency is the proportion of a particular allele among all allele copies being considered. Formal definition: Allele or gene frequency is the percentage of all alleles at a given locus in a population gene pool represented by a particular allele. .

@Pagetar Don't copy paste stuff from online, he's a beginner, he probably has no idea what you just said... Allele frequency is the amount of alleles in a given population. Because each gene has 2 alleles to find the frequency of allele population you would for example BB 70 Bb 20 bb 10 Population 100 to find the allele frequency of the B, because each gene in BB has two genes we would take 70 + 70 = 140 Bb also has the allele we are trying to find, but because there is also and 'b' we can only include 20 + 0 = 20 when ever you do allele frequency also it is going to be allele's found / total alleles like we said, because there are 2 alleles in 1 gene we would take the total popluation and multiply it by 2, (100 x 2) = 200. so our answer for allele frequency for B is, (70 +70 + 20) / (100 x 2) 160/200 = 80%

@alphadxg Well Explained but its of No Use, as the asker is not involved, in the method of finding its solution ! Most of them want immediate Answers, so they just check out the answers not your explanation. To avoid it and to appreciate teaching in a combined style, ask the user to carry out simple calculations by him/herself with your support and allow the asker to find out the answer through you ! For Example: check How I involve the asker to find out her answers !
