look at the portion where it says "To divide two numbers expressed in scientific notation, ..."
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
ken, they gave you numbers like 3.54 * 10^7
and jim says 1.18 * 10^(-1) would be ur answer
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
1.18 * 10^(-1)
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
what do you not understand about it?
like 10^-1 means you move the decimal to the left 1 space
while 10^1 means you move the decimal to the right 1 space
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
Not that^, how do u multiply 1.18 and 10^-1
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
you don't
you keep it like that
like how they kept their numbers like 3.54 * 10^7
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
So the answer is 1.18 * 10^(-1)

yes
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
But @jim_thompson5910 said i had to multiply 1.18 * 10^(-1)
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
@jigglypuff314
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
if you wanted to
you can keep your answer like that
he just wanted you to make sure the 1.18 and the 10^-1
were together
because in your first post you were saying that just 10^-1 was the answer
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
oh ok
