OpenStudy (beccab003):

I don't understand how to do equations like this and I have a test coming up. Can someone please help? Thanks! Rewrite the following expression as a fraction times the variable. -x/10

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-x is the same as -1x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so -x/10 is the same as -1x/10

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what's the next step?

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Does it have something to with the Lowest Common Denominator?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no you're just pulling out the variable to go from -1x/10 to (-1/10)*x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

notice it's now in the form of "fraction times variable"

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Oh! the variable is the x...now I understand. So it is -1/10 * x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

\[\Large -\frac{1}{10} * x\]

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Thanks so much! Your a big help! I couldn't figure out how to do those type of questions and I have a test coming up soon. Thanks!!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome and good luck on the test

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Thanks!
