help with geometry question?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

are you going to post the question?

OpenStudy (abbie):

@ganeshie8 can you help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pretty sure it's a reduction with the factor 2

OpenStudy (abbie):

yeah I know that but can you help me find the scale factor?

OpenStudy (abbie):

how did you get 2?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

r u sure its 2 and not 3 ratio 6:2 means factor of 3

OpenStudy (triciaal):

big to little so 1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@triciaal I'm sorry it's late here, you're right

OpenStudy (triciaal):

@jonbia no problem. @ abbie do you need more help?

OpenStudy (abbie):

can someone explain the answer to me please? I dont get it

OpenStudy (triciaal):

one version hope it helps; when you enlarge you make bigger you multiply when you reduce you make smaller this is considered the scale factor you are comparing sides of a particular object in this case I used the original measure of 6 units and the new figure the same side had a measure of 2 units to get from 6 to 2 divide by 6 to get the equivalent 1:3 the new figure is 1/3 the size of the original figure therefore a reduction

OpenStudy (abbie):

so 1/3 is the scale factor right? and you got that by dividing 6:2 by 2?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

the scale factor is 1/3 to go from 6 to 2 i had to multiply by 1/3 i divided by 6 6/6 : 2/6 = 1:1/3
