OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is necessary for a cell to undergo mitosis?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

Pretty sure its like fluid water for the sperm...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Grazes Oh that is a complicated question. What level of school is this for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just curious. Answers to the creation of Earth lead to more questions. I've ascertained that the first cell needed energy to conduct mitosis, but I'm not sure where this energy came from. Some websites say amino acids.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

'Cause the sperm has a lot of traveling to do and then the gametes and other joyful stuff comes into play

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Grazes Ah, I see. I have no idea what P is talking about, it makes no sense for your question. You are correct, life had to be able to replicate to or it would never make it past the first cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question is how. And P is in his little world full of "joyful stuff."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm assuming that the sun hadn't come into existence- even though the sun is not living and was formed by dust and other particles, I'm not sure where the hydrogen would have come from, if not from bacteria or other cells as waste products.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Grazes It seems that energy would probably come from light reactive molecules. However, the issue of how did the first life form replicate is separate from what cells need for mitosis. It is also important to mention that several amino acids and proteins will cause conformational pellets when the hit other similar molecules. This is what is occurring in prion diseases like mad cow and chronic wasting disease in American deer.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

*Sigh*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By conformational pellets, you mean that the amino acids and proteins form bonds to create: ______

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mrdoldum I will hold down the fort. Help in the meantime?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Arg, pellets? I have no idea what autocorrect did there. That should have been proteins. Sure, what help? @Grazes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Grazes Oh, by conformational shape I mean the 3-d shape of a protein, which does influence the function of the protein.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the animo acids come from chemical synthesis. But doesn't the reaction require energy too?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Grazes, yes but certain reactions can occur simply by being hit by photons of light. This is partially evident of being highly important in the evolution of life because we currently think that autotrophs (I believe the theory is chemoautotrophs) where the first to evolve and photoautotrophs were right there at the start as well.

OpenStudy (eric_d):

one of it is to repair damaged cells

OpenStudy (eric_d):

@Grazes
