Can someone help me figure this out without giving me the answer using process of elimination? :) @iambatman @jim_thompson5910 A student performs two transformations on a figure on a coordinate plane. Which of the following series of transformations would NOT result in a congruent figure? A. a translation of 2 units up and then a dilation of B. a rotation of 90° around one point and then a reflection over the x-axis C. a reflection over the y-axis and then a reflection over the line y = x D. a translation of 9 units to the left and then a translation of 1 unit down
1/2 is at the end of A, sorry. :)
@iambatman @mathstudent55 @jim_thompson5910
hint: think back to the problem that you posted right before this one
C? 0_0 This one kinda confuses me.
If you were to reflect a triangle over a line, are the two triangles congruent?
Yes? Aren't they just a reflection of each other. They're still the same shape and size...
so C is out because we're looking for a transformation that would NOT result in a congruent figure
OK... @jim_thompson5910 I THINK it's A...
why A? what transformation do you see that makes it the answer?
Woops I meant B. :) @jim_thompson5910
ok, why B?
IDK! It might be A because It's the only one changing not turning.
do translations keep the same size and shape of the figure?
Yes? Don't they just move on the graph not change? o_o
yep, so translations result in a congruent figure
that's why D is out
rotations do the same, so B is out
dilations are one transformation that don't keep the shape the same which is why I was giving you the hint to go back and look at the previous problem you posted
size and shape*
So it is A?!?!? ):):):):):):):):):):):) @jim_thompson5910
correct
Yay! Thanks! :)
you're welcome
